Harvest at St Stephen's Church
A lot of hard work goes into filling the church with flowers, foliage, fresh fruit and vegetables for harvest, but the final result and the smell is fantastic. This year the non-perishable gifts of food will be going to a women's refuge. 'Starter packs' are made up for the women and children when they arrive at the refuge and are very much appreciated.
This year we welcomed Graham and Joyce Whistance, visiting from Kent, for our harvest. Graham took both our morning and evening services. The choir also took part in both services. The fresh foods were sold and the money raised given to Christian Aid.
A fantastic week was had by all at this years 'Showstoppers' Holiday Club. St Stephen's church hall was transformed into a theatre. The week had the overall theme of God's plan for us and included creation, David and Goliath, Daniel and the lion's den together with two days covering Jesus' birth, death and resurrection.
The week included lots of activities including stories, art and craft, music, puppetry, ventriloquism, games, country dancing and singing. There was drama, keep fit, ice creams and fish and chips! We had a couple of special guests this year. Adrian Low, a Methodist local preacher came with Colin, his puppet, to entertain us. We also had a lady showing us how to face paint, not just the butterflies and tigers but how to use face paints for bruises, cut fingers and cut eyes! The older boys especially enjoyed this !!
It's always pleasing to find that so
many of the children want to come back to holiday club year after year.
A big thank you to Peter and Annette for all their hard work and to all
the helpers for making it possible.
