PRESIDENT'S PROJECT DISTRICT NETWORK- The President of Network this year, Shelia Jackson, is supporting projects involving helping deaf children in India and South Africa. The main aim of which is to enable these deprived, deaf young people to be able to learn sufficient skills to lead useful and fulfilled lives with dignity, meaning and with hope for their future. Most of Shelia's working life has been spent teaching deaf children and since her retirement she has continued to work voluntarily with the deaf, hence her special interest in these projects. A coffee day was held at Shelia's house to raise money for the projects. Many people called by to enjoy a cuppa, home baking, a pleasant chat and to find out more about the work in which our President is involved. A grand total of £523.00 was raised. details. WOMEN'S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER The service this year, on 3 March, was held at our church. This years service, 'Signs of the Times' was prepared by Christian women of South Africa. AGAPE MEAL On Maundy Thursday an Agape meal was held instead of a traditional communion service.
When the first Christians obeyed Jesus'
command to remember him in the sharing of bread and wine, some of them did
so in the context of a full meal. This was known as a love feast or
Agape. Nowadays, the Agape is celebrated on Maundy Thursday night
with a shared meal and communion. ST STEPHENS FUNDRAISING Coffee Morning A coffee morning and book sale was organised by Nick to raise funds for British Heart Foundation. Over £200 was raised. Well done Nick. Day Centre A bring and buy sale and coffee morning was held recently by the Day Centre. £150 was raised. The team wish to thank everyone who supported them. Mike's Candlelit Supper £100 was raised recently. Mike's candlelit suppers are highly recommended. Please see him to book and sample his delicious menu! JMA The children of St Stephen's are actively involved in supporting JMA (Junior Mission for All). Methodist children is the new name for the organisation now incorporating all the work of JMA. The new website www.methodistchildren.org.uk is packed full of resources both for children and those working with them in the church. The site includes dedicated JMA pages, which have loads of resources to assist in this important mission work. Central to the website is an audit: it is hoped to piece together an accurate picture of what work is happening with children across the country to offer a more tailored support service. So all JMA supporters are encouraged to log on today and discover the new world of Methodist Children! HOLIDAY CLUB 2006 This years Holiday Club has been planned for the week beginning 31 July. We hope to use the 'Pyramid Rock' material which is based on the story of Joseph. We are looking forward to welcoming many children through the doors for another action packed, Christian activity, fun filled week. To be successful the Holiday Club needs many helpers, since the number of children we can invite directly depends on the number of those willing to help.
